Psychotherapy at Acora

With everyone living such busy, demanding, stressful lives, wellbeing has become a huge industry.  Today there are so many healing and self-help tools available it is very difficult to know what is right for you and what will work.  This also includes such a vast range of therapies and self-help books that it can be overwhelming.  Everybody needs some extra support at certain times in their lives, so what do you turn to?
At any time when the quality of your life is not what you want it to be, psychotherapy can help.  But what is it?  Well sometimes it simply helps to talk.what-is-counselling-300x270
Psychotherapy is a form of talk therapy but can include other methods of communication such as journaling, role-play, art, dream work, mindfulness and breathing techniques.  The focus is on helping you learn more constructive ways to deal with the issues and stresses in your life and feel better.  The therapy takes place in a supportive environment where you will be able to talk to someone who is open, neutral and non-judgemental.  Together you and your therapist work on understanding your feelings and behaviour patterns and develop the skills for you to cope with the difficult times.
At Acora I use a holistic, humanistic, integrative approach.  What this means is that I focus on helping the person maximise their potential and get to know themselves better by combining elements from several styles of psychotherapy and personal development according to your needs.  Some forms of psychotherapy can last just a few sessions and others can be long term.  The sessions are usually for one hour, once a week.  When I first meet a client I offer a free consultation session in order to assess what is required.  I usually agree to working together initially for 6 sessions to see if we are a good fit.  It is important that you feel comfortable talking with your therapist as this has a huge impact on the outcome of the therapy.  At the end of the 6 weeks I do a review with the client and then together we decide how to proceed.
Psychotherapy is very much working with the client.  Personally I am not a nodding therapist and will give feedback and talk with you.  Nobody can tell your story but you, so the more comfortable you are working with me the more you will be able to open up.  Please contact me if you have any questions!
