Traumatic events happen to us all, whether it is physical, environmental, social or financial. Trauma can result from a various number of things, such as a car crash, illness, rape, loss or abuse. Abuse can be emotional, physical and sexual and is very traumatising. Abuse and trauma have major consequences on the victim, leaving emotional and psychological scars, social difficulties and physical health issues.
It is important to be able to tell your story and work through the feelings. While talk therapy is one of the many ways to recover from abuse and trauma, there are other approaches that promote healing and we can explore these during the course of the therapy. It can take time to heal but working with a therapist with who can feel safe and trust will allow you to investigate the difficulties at your own pace and learn new coping skills as you unfold your story.
